David Teague takes the reigns at the Carlton Blues this weekend, his first assignment is the Brisbane Lions at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Join The Roar for live coverage of the match, with scores and a blog from 1:45pm AEST.

Carlton managed just 33 points against the Essendon Bombers in a scrappy Sunday afternoon loss at the MCG.

Patrick Cripps was again well-held; this time the Bombers’ Dylan Clarke tagged the star midfielder to just 11 touches.

The 41-point margin was hardly one to silence the Essendon critics, however it was the final straw for the Carlton board, who parted ways with their head coach on Monday morning.

It was agreed that Brendon Bolton’s time was up after another failed start to the season.

David Teague has been named as the caretaker coach for the 1 and 10 Blues, a “different personality”, says injured co-captain Sam Docherty, “the infectious type”.

The Brisbane Lions ran over Hawthorn in the final term last Saturday evening to a 19-point win at the Gabba.

In a slow start to the match, the Lions kicked six first-term behinds to find themselves down by 25-points at the break.

The Lions’ midfield stepped up late in the game to ensure Brisbane’s fourth win in-a-row against the Hawks, and cement the team’s place in the top-eight.

At selection, the Blues made a total of four changes for this weekend.

Interim coach Teague declared a “clean slate” earlier in the week, and this extended to the recall of Dale Thomas, who was sent to the VFL last week by the leadership team for drinking 48 hours out from a game.

Veteran defender Kade Simpson is also into the squad, while forward Mitch McGovern has overcome a minor ankle injury to be fit to face the Lions.

Lochie O’Brien is the fourth inclusion for Carlton.

Liam Socker (foot) and Darcy Lang (hip) have been sidelined through injury, while Alex Fasolo and Matthew Kennedy have been omitted from the side.

One change for the Lions this weekend, Jacob Allison will play his first AFL game for the year.

The last time Allison featured in the senior side was in round seven, 2018, but for his hard work and domination at NEAFL level, he has been recalled to the senior side.

Ben Keays has been dropped this weekend.

Round 16, 2018 was the last time these two teams met. At the Gabba, Brisbane won their first back-to-back games since 2015, with a 65-point thumping of the Blues.

Prediction
The emotional toll of this week could go one of two ways for the Blues: inspire a victory or exhaust their already struggling young side.

Unfortunately, early intensity form the Blues should die out by half-time and the Lions will capitalise.

Brisbane are sitting comfortably inside the eight and will be looking to secure another four-points at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.

Brisbane by 31 points.
