A huge crowd is set to descend on the MCG when two of 2022’s early risers in Carlton and Hawthorn lock horns in a traditional Sunday blockbuster. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling updates from 1:10pm (AEST).

Unpredictably, both the Blues and Hawks are undefeated heading into the third week of the season, with much pre-season talk around the teams hopeful yet unconvinced that either would be playing finals in 2022.

Thus far, such a result would be hard to put beyond both teams, as new coaches, Michael Voss and Sam Mitchell continue to impress in their first seasons at the helm.

Voss is back this week after missing out due to health and safety protocols last week and has a further challenge to face today with the absence of Adam Saad for the exact same reason.

Along with the unavailability of Mitch McGovern and Oscar McDonald, the Blues have a few important gaps to fill yet will be boosted by the returns of Adam Cerra and Jack Martin.

The Hawks will be without Ben McEvoy for this clash, yet are in a fairly healthy state otherwise heading into a match that could well send either team to the head of the AFL ladder.

Wins against Port Adelaide and North Melbourne have the Hawks flying high and pundits reassessing some of their thoughts leading into the season.

Prediction
The general consensus appears to be that the Blues are back and destined to be a force this season. Patrick Cripps has looked his former self and the improved defensive application they have shown is starkly different to recent seasons. The Hawks have impressed thus far, yet may struggle up against a rampant Blues.
