Following their Round 1 loss, the Carlton Blues and Melbourne Demons will be eager to get a win on the board to resume their seasons. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:35pm (AEST).

This game is set to say a lot about either team. Both teams expected improved seasons, so a loss today will be a setback as both teams face tough opponents ahead in Geelong and Essendon following Round 2.

The Blues are expected to transition out of their rebuilding phase and transition into a finals team with their star recruits in the off-season in Eddie Betts, Jack Martin and Jack Newnes boosting their best 22. Fans have been waiting and it is now time for the Blues.

A win today will give them some good hope and confidence for the season while a loss will mount pressure on them as they face Geelong next week and could end up 0-3.

After making it to the preliminary final in 2018, the Demons have disappointed since and fans are expecting them to step it up this season and get back into finals contention. If they are to achieve success this season, games like today are a must-win.

Harley Bennell will play his first game of AFL since 2017 and his third since 2015. It is a remarkable comeback to the game after countless hours spent in rehab for a day like this to come. Bennell is set to play a maximum of 70 minutes today out of a total of approximately 100 minutes in the game.

West Australian youngsters Luke Jackson and Trent Rivers will also debut for the Demons. Both 18-year-olds come into the side after a number of omissions for the Demons including Charlie Spargo, who was banned for breaching AFL COVID-19 protocols for two weeks.

The Blues have Eddie Betts coming in for his first game back at the club after his time at the Adelaide Crows. Marc Pittonet will debut for the Blues after playing seven games in three seasons before coming to Carlton from the Hawks. He is set to play a major role in the ruck up against Max Gawn.

The Blues will be fired up with their new-look list, while the Dees will hope to resume the season strongly and progress after a disappointing season.

Prediction
It will be a close one. After seeing the Blues in Round 1 against the Tigers with the exception of their poor start, I will go with them this afternoon. The new-look Blues line-up appeals to me. If the cohesion is there, the Blues will win today and go on to have a good season.

Carlton by 12 points.
