Two teams on the rise open Round 5 as the Carlton Blues take on the St Kilda Saints at Marvel Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).
Carlton continued their trend of razor-thin thrillers post-lockdown, defeating Essendon by a single point last week to claim their second straight win. It came after a two-point win over Geelong in Round 3 and a one-point loss to Melbourne the week before. This is the first time Carlton have won two or more of their first four matches since 2012.
Coming off a poor loss the week before, St Kilda made a huge statement last week with a 26-point win over reigning premiers Richmond in a monumental upset. The Saints have won two of three matches since the season resumed, over the Tigers and another hopeful top four side in the Western Bulldogs.
Last time these sides met, it was the Blues who took the points with a hard-fought ten-point win. Prior to that game, however, the Saints had won the previous five encounters. Curiously, the last time a team didn’t win consecutive matches in this rivalry was back in 1999.
