Match result:

The Carlton Blues have defeated the St Kilda Saints by 10 points at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

It was a seriously good contest between the two teams, but David Teague’s side were too strong come the final siren.

That is Teague’s first win as the permanent head coach of the Blues, as he signed a three-year contract with the club a few days ago.

In terms of the match, Marc Murphy accumulated 27 disposals for the Blues. Mitch McGovern was sharp in front of goal, as he booted three majors for the game.

As for Brett Ratten’s side, they were decent for the majority of the day, but it was always going to be difficult to beat the Blues on current form.

Seb Ross continued his good season, as he finished with 29 disposals for the game. Tim Membrey was a threat in front of goal, as the forward booted three majors for the match.

Neither side will be playing finals this season, but the signs are positive heading into 2020.

This game will no doubt gain the interest of the public, and that stems from the fact that David Teague has finally been appointed as Carlton’s head coach on a permanent basis.

Teague, who has signed a three-year contract, had been mounting a fair case since taking over from Brendon Bolton, who was sacked after round 11.

In Teague’s reign, Carlton have claimed five wins and lost four games, which was enough of a sample size for the board to give him the job on a full-time basis.

Over the course of the season, the Blues have claimed six wins from 20 games, which highlights that before Teague took over, Carlton had only won the one match.

However, despite the late-season surge, the Blues had a very poor start to the season, which means they will not be featuring in the finals series in 2019.

Carlton are coming off a loss, which was handed to them by the Richmond Tigers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last weekend.

The 28-point loss was clearly not what Carlton were hoping for, but they were positives to take nonetheless.

Patrick Cripps continued his terrific season, as the midfielder accumulated 37 disposals against the Tigers.

Ed Curnow was also solid, as he finished the game with 34 possessions. Mitch McGovern kicked two majors for the game.

In team news this week for the Blues, Liam Jones (injured) and Darcy Lang (omitted) make way. Matthew Kennedy and Paddy Dow are the inclusions.

There are also a couple of milestones for two of Carlton’s players this week. Nic Newman will play his 50th game, and Cripps will play his 100th game.

As for the Saints, they will be looking to spoil the party by handing Teague his first loss as the full-time head coach of the Blues. More importantly, however, they will be trying to get the win for their caretaker coach, Brett Ratten.

The Saints are unlikely to feature in the final series this season, as they have only claimed nine wins from 20 games.

However, they are still a chance mathematically, as the Saints are coming off a very handy victory, but a finals appearance is still unlikely.

Ratten’s side defeated the Fremantle Dockers by three points last weekend at Marvel Stadium, and it took a major from Josh Bruce in the last minute of the match to decide the game.

In terms of the four quarters, Seb Ross found plenty of the football against the Dockers, as he finished the game with 28 disposals.

Jack Steven was very good in front of goal, as he booted three majors for the match, also. In team news this week for the Saints, Nathan Brown replaces the injured Nick Coffield.

Prediction
With Teague being appointed as the permanent head coach of the Blues, that should have a positive impact on the playing group. It will be a Carlton victory full of emotion.
