The equation is simple for the Collingwood Magpies; defeat the Gold Coast Suns at The Gabba and they’re into the finals for 2020. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:10pm (AEST).

It hasn’t quite been the season they’d hoped for, but Collingwood find themselves in the box seat for a finals spot and will back themselves to do some damage once there. A win tonight moves them to 38 points, which means they’ll be in the finals no matter what happens in their final home-and-away match next season. A loss, however, leaves them vulnerable to being leapfrogged.

Gold Coast don’t have a finals spot to play for, but they’re aiming for their first six-win season since 2017 which – given the shortened season – would be a huge achievement. They scored a huge win over North Melbourne two weeks ago to get reward for a few months of fruitless effort, but looked flat against Brisbane last week and will be hoping to bounce back.

The Magpies have a predictably strong record over the Suns, winning the last five meetings between the sides and seven of nine overall by an average margin of 59 points. Gold Coast’s two wins over Collingwood came in 2013 and 2014, by a combined margin of just 12 points.
