In-form Lions’ midfielder Lachie Neale returns to face his old side when the Fremantle Dockers host the Brisbane Lions at Optus Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Join The Roar for all the action, with live scores and a blog of the match from 5:20pm (AEST).

In a close, low-scoring Saturday night game under the roof of Marvel Stadium, Fremantle loss to Essendon by just seven points.

The Bombers broke a three-game losing streak, while the wasteful Dockers are now on their own run of losses – three in-a-row – that must be broken at home on Sunday.

This match was not great viewing, coverage of the election may have even been less painful, it was the fourth time Fremantle have failed to reach 60-points this season.

The Dockers appear to be on their way up, but with performances like the last two losses, it’s hard to tell exactly where they sit.

The Brisbane Lions led confidently for all bar a five-minute patch in the second term, but only just held on last Saturday afternoon for a one-point victory over the Adelaide Crows.

It was a drought-breaking victory, the first time since 2012 that the Lions have defeated the Crows, but it almost didn’t happen as Adelaide kicked the final four goals of the game to reduce a 26-point lead to just one behind.

The Lions finished round nine in fourth position on the AFL ladder, continuing the club’s surprising season.

Fremantle were forced to make one change this weekend, Matt Taberner has been ruled out for the season with a stress fracture in his left foot.

The injury was initially given an eight-week timeline, but was confirmed to be season-ending on Wednesday.

Fremantle, with several options for his replacement, have opted for mature-age draftee Brett Bewley to debut.

Bewley is a 24-year-old running midfielder, taken at pick 59 in the 2018 NAB AFL National Draft from Williamstown, who has been in good form for Peel in the WAFL so far this season.

Brisbane have also been forced to make changes at selection.

Jarrod Berry has been ruled out of this weekend’s match with a sore knee, while Rhys Mathieson will also miss the trip to Perth after accepting a one-match suspension for striking.

The Lions welcome back Luke Hodge and Lewis Taylor.

Hodge was a late withdrawal against Adelaide due to a sore calf, which Chris Fagan said the club did not want to risk. He returns for his 333rd AFL game.

Since being dropped from the senior side after round seven, Taylor has been dominating in the NEAFL in recent weeks and will welcome the opportunity to prove his value to the AFL team.

Round 15, 2018 was the last time these two teams met.

Over in Perth, Brisbane battled against the cauldron of Fremantle fans at Optus Stadium to get their first win on the road for the season, a big 55-point victory.

Hugh McCluggage will start in the centreline for his 50th AFL game, a milestone McCluggage reaches in his third year at the club.

Drafted at pick three in the 2016 NAB AFL National Draft, the classy midfielder made his debut in round three, 2017.

He has developed into a confident midfielder and found his place as a “great ball winner and smart player” according to coach Chris Fagan.

Prediction
Both sides look good when they get going, but the question is who will be switched-on on Sunday?

The Lions will travel well and put up a fight, but the Dockers must get back on winner’s list this Sunday to stay around the top-eight mark.

Fremantle by 8 points.
