The Sydney Swans can continue their stunning rise in 2021 with a victory on the road against the inconsistent Fremantle Dockers at Perth’s Optus Stadium. Keep an eye on this Saturday evening clash with live scores on The Roar from 7:40pm (AEDT).

Few expected the Swans to be 6-3 after nine rounds heading into the season. But, fuelled by a crop of talented youngsters and led by the experience of Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker in midfield, the Bloods are back in finals contention after a mere two-year absence.

Last week’s win over Collingwood was far from their most impressive, given the struggles of their opposition; but the match did provide a welcome return to form for star forward Isaac Heeney, booting three goals. Injuries have wrecked Heeney’s start to the year, but at his best, the high-flying blonde makes the Swans’ forward line an even greater threat.

The Dockers have struggled with injury and form of late, losing their last three to fall outside the top eight and threaten to erode a strong start to the year. The blows are still coming, too, with rising star Andrew Brayshaw to miss their clash with the Swans with a calf tweak.

Gun defender Luke Ryan, though, is a massive inclusion. He has missed all three of the Dockers’ recent losses with his own calf injury, so it will be a relief for coach Justin Longmuir to have the intercept king back at Optus Stadium. The 2020 All-Australian is the Dockers’ defensive general, and with Sydney boasting an arsenal of dangerous talls, his impact could be profound.

Look out for Lance Franklin to severely test the Dockers’ defence. The champion Swan booted eight goals in his one and only game at Optus Stadium back in 2018 to sink the Eagles. A similar bag this time would almost certainly be match-winning again.
