It might be the most important Western Derby ever as the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles lock horns with finals on the line. Follow the action from Optus Stadium as Round 22 concludes with live scores on The Roar from 5:10pm (AEST).

They’ve never met in a final, so this particular Derby, despite their middling ladder positions, might be the most crucial in history to win. With the Dockers a game out of the eight and the Eagles facing Brisbane in Round 23, it’s almost certainly curtains for the loser tonight.

Even if the Eagles do manage to win, though, Essendon’s superior percentage in ninth and likely two wins to finish the year could see them leapfrog Adam Simpson’s men anyway. Whatever the case, a Derby is a Derby, and bragging rights are important enough in their own right for the 2018 premiers to leave it all out on the field.

The Dockers’ 64-point loss to Brisbane last week was a crushing blow after a thrilling win over Richmond had propelled them back into the eight. With a dismal percentage, they’re all but out of the finals race anyway, but a win here could at least mean they drag their arch rivals down with them.

Both sides have some serious players among the outs; a hamstring injury has sidelined Eagles champion Shannon Hurn, while Dockers young gun Andrew Brayshaw has been suspended following some inappropriate facial contact on Lions player Jarrod Berry last week. Both are hugely important losses – but the Eagles at least have some cavalry returning, with captain Luke Shuey and goalsneak Liam Ryan among the ins.
