Can the Carlton Blues get one final scalp for 2019, or will the Geelong Cats finish strong at home? Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the Round 23 match at GMHBA Stadium, from 4:35pm AEST.

The Cats were overrun last Saturday afternoon by a fighting Brisbane side.

In one of the more thrilling final terms this year, Brisbane found a way to get the job done at home and in the process dealt Geelong its fifth loss in the back-half of the season.

Geelong must re-group this weekend, before a bye and a qualifying final to set up their finals’ series.

New senior coach David Teague got his first official win as the man in charge of Carlton, as the Blues came home strong to defeat St Kilda.

The score worm shows what a wild ride it was at the MCG on Saturday, and despite it being 16th up against 14th it was an entertaining clash for some 51,786 supporters who turned up to watch the teams play.

Carlton – and its fans – will look at the second half of this season with positivity and pride, and one final surprise victory would cap it off nicely.

Geelong have been forced to make changes at selection.

Gary Rohan returns in just three weeks from a knee injury, while Rhys Stanley will play his first AFL game since Round 18.

The ruckman is back following a solid 24-hitout, two-goal performance in the VFL last week.

Rohan’s timely inclusion comes as Tom Atkins misses the match against Carlton after requiring minor surgery on a hand injury.

Jake Kolodjashnij is also out with injury according to the team sheet, however, has been named as an emergency.

Carlton have also been forced to make a couple of changes.

Michael Gibbons (shoulder) and Darcy Lang (ankle) will both be sidelined for the Blues’ last game of the season.

Jacob Weitering boosts the backline stocks, while David Cuningham makes his long-awaited return from a knee injury.

The last time these sides met was in Round 10, 2018.

Well over a year ago, the Cats prevailed by 28-points in a bland game for Gary Ablett’s return to GMHBA Stadium.

This is the second year in a row that Carlton will head down the highway after a 21-year hiatus from playing at the venue.

Geelong will pay tribute to the late Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer, wearing its 2019 Indigenous jumper for Saturday’s game.

Prediction
Geelong won’t stuff this up, will they?

A win puts the Cats in contention for the minor premiership and provides important momentum heading into the finals, although they will still have the bye issue to deal with.

A loss, well the worst they can do is fourth and that could mean a trip north, a trip west or a trip to the ‘G.
