Show Preview

The Geelong Cats and Fremantle Dockers bring winning form into their clash at GMHBA Stadium, with the victor to establish themselves as bona fide premiership contenders. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 1.45pm (AEST).

The Cats cleaned up North Melbourne with ease last weekend and recaptured their best form after looking unconvincing against Hawthorn a week prior.

Not much has gone wrong for the Dockers thus far in 2022, with just a lone loss to show for the efforts of what now looks a consistent and committed team.

Despite not playing top-notch opposition to this point in the season, Fremantle have the chance to make a clear statement against a Geelong side that would surprise no one with a top-four finish come season’s end.

The Dockers are playing with a spirit only seen in the best of teams, and whilst their defensive structures will be tested on the narrow GMHBA Stadium, only a brave person would write off their chances in this one.

In team news, Geelong enter the match with an effectively unchanged outfit from the side that was so impressive against the Roos. The Dockers have not been so lucky, with the key outs of Matt Taberner and Sean Darcy potentially making the trip to Geelong an even more difficult one for them.

Prediction

Whilst the Dockers will topple many a team this season, the Cats should have their measure at home, with the dimensions of the ground playing a key role and the always sturdy hooped defence unlikely to buckle.

The loss of Taberner is key and it is tough to see Fremantle being able to manage a score large enough to take home the four points.
