The Geelong Cats and the GWS Giants clash at GMHBA Stadium in what appears to be the match of the round. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 1:45pm (AEST).

Geelong are flying high on the back of a stoic defence and free-flowing scoring in their last two matches.

Collingwood, Melbourne and Adelaide have all fallen victim to Chris Scott’s machine that has clicked into gear early in the season.

With the introduction of some youthful promise and potential, and the sprinkling of sheer class in the form of Patrick Dangerfield, Gary Ablett and Joel Selwood, the balance in the squad looks impressive.

The results so far have been exactly that and the Giants will need to be near their best on Geelong’s home deck if they are to take the four competition points.

If they were able to achieve that, it would jump them up the ladder to join the Cats in temporary top spot, before the Lions will have a chance to claim that all to themselves when they face Essendon at the MCG in a match that begins at around the same time.

The Giants were humbled by the West Coast a fortnight ago yet bounced back with an impressive thrashing of the depleted Tigers in Sydney last weekend.

If the West Coast result was an accurate reflection of their position in comparison to the benchmark, they are well off the pace and may be soundly beaten by the Cats.

Yet, how good is this Geelong team? Two of their scalps have been unimpressive to this point in the season. Both Adelaide and Melbourne look awful at the moment and only the Collingwood win in Round 1 really stands up as good form.

Therefore this is a tough one to line up and the home ground advantage of GMHBA Stadium could well be the deciding factor in what stands to be an exciting clash between two teams bound for the finals in 2019.

Prediction
The Cats form is real and sustainable. Defensively, they have caused all sorts of headaches for opponents thus far this season.

With Jeremy Cameron in hot form, the Giants will be hoping to break it down via that avenue, however, the form of the Cat’s back six should be able to restrict the scoring of the visitors.
