With a 7-1 record after eight rounds and their only loss this year having come to the GWS Giants, and even that one being by less than a goal, the Geelong Cats are clearly the AFL’s leading team so far this season.
They appear, alongside GWS and Collingwood, to be the team most deeply in the race for the premiership – but of course we know well the fact that there are no certainties in his competition.
The Western Bulldogs on the other hand are on the edge of being in finals race after a win over the Brisbane Lions put them up to 4-4 and in touch with the top eight.
That means back to back wins over big cats after having knocked off Richmond the week prior. Are they back in form or have they gotten a bit lucky two weeks in a row?
This match against Geelong will provide a vital test for them. Put in a good showing here – even if they don’t quite win – and there’ll be no doubts they belong in the finals race.
The match will see 2016 premiership player Luke Dahlhaus play against his old side for the first time.
Prediction
The Dogs have a midfield deep enough to make life difficult for Geelong, so they’ve got a chance to get the job done. Geelong deserve favouritism though.
