Jordan De Goey returns for Collingwood for the first time since his ill-fated trip to Bali, as they aim to take down the vastly improved Gold Coast outfit in a match with major finals ramifications. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 7:25pm (AEST).

The Magpies have won five in a row, along the way beating Melbourne, Fremantle and Carlton, and look the goods for a surprise finals appearance. However, knocking over the Suns on their own soil is a challenge just as daunting as any of them.

Having De Goey’s explosiveness and X-factor ability around stoppages back in the fold is a plus, and no doubt he’ll be itching to get back into it after a fortnight marred by off-field controversy. However, defender Jeremy Howe is a major loss through illness.

The Suns sit 11th with an even 7-7 record, and having lost one virtual elimination final last week against Port Adelaide in a thriller, would be loath to lose another.

This match is arguably the scene of the Suns’ most famous win to date, a narrow triumph over Collingwood back in 2014 where they held on to win despite being reduced to no men on the bench for much of the final quarter, in the infamous match where Gary Ablett injured his shoulder. Since then, the Suns have seldom if ever been a finals contender: lose today, and their dreams might already be crushed for 2022.
