Things couldn’t be tougher for Gold Coast as they bid to start the season 2-0 for the first time under Stuart Dew, as they take on reigning premiers Melbourne. Join The Roar for live scores from 8pm (AEDT).
The Suns did what they needed to do against an injury-ravaged West Coast last week, running over the top of the Eagles late for a 27-point win. But concerns remain about the Suns, who came closer to fluffing their lines than the scoreline indicates.
Their midfield looks brilliant, with Matt Rowell showing just what damage he can do when fully fit and Touk Miller continuing on from his outstanding 2021. But doing it against the best in the business will be another challenge entirely.
The Demons got their premiership defence off to a winning start in Round 1’s grand final rematch, with Christian Petracca again tormenting the Bulldogs. Dew will need to put some serious work into the Dees’ midfield ace to prevent him wreaking havoc once again.
The Suns go in largely unchanged, with medi-sub Alex Sexton forcing his way into the 22 for Darcy Macpherson, while the Dees have been boosted by the early return of Trent Rivers from injury, who slots in for Christian Salem at half-back.
