The Gold Coast Suns will look to open their 2021 account against the North Melbourne Kangaroos at Metricon Stadium. Stay up to date with their AFL clash with live scores on The Roar from 8:10pm (AEDT).

Gold Coast were far from disgraced in their opening-round loss to West Coast last week, pushing the Eagles all the way and even leading by a point at three quarter time, before falling away in the last quarter to go down by 25. The big headline, however, was another unlucky contact injury to superstar in the making Matthew Rowell – the Suns fell away when he went down last year and they’ll be desperate to avoid that happening again.

Widely tipped for the wooden spoon, North Melbourne did little to dismiss those predictions against the Power in Round 1. Their effort couldn’t be faulted, but they were clearly several rungs below the reigning minor premiers in a comprehensive 52-point loss. This year isn’t about wins and losses, but first-year coach David Noble will want to ensure the Kangaroos stay competitive.

The Suns blew North away when these sides met last season, holding their opponents goalless for the second half in a 63-point win that would’ve been even bigger had they kicked more accurately at goal. A win tonight would give Gold Coast a 50 per cent lifetime record against the Kangas – which would be their best against any side.
