The Gold Coast Suns will be out to pick up a rare win and move away from the bottom of the ladder when they host the understrength and out of sorts Richmond Tigers. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 2:10pm (AEST).

Simply put, this needs to be something of a statement game for the Tigers, who just haven’t been able to string their form of the last few years together, with a mix of injuries and poor performances hampering their progress.

As it stands, the Tigers are sitting in seventh spot, just a win ahead of ninth and tenth, and a loss today would then them closer to a failed season and missing the finals.

There is obviously still a lot of water to pass under the bridge between now and September, but the Tigers are in a position where games like today, against a club like the Gold Coast, whether home or away, are absolutely must-win.

Richmond had lost three on the trot before last weekend, when they put the skids on their slide to get the better of the St Kilda Saints, but there is still a lot of work to do in getting the club back to where they need to be.

If things aren’t going quite to plan for the Tigers though, it’s absolute chaos on the Gold Coast. The Suns have lost ten matches on the hop and are now equal at the foot of the table with the Carlton Blues.

Last week brought about a 42-point trouncing at the hands of the Sydney Swans, and while they went close in the previous fortnight against North Melbourne and St Kilda, the Suns are an absolute rabble.

Their basic skills are nowhere to be seen, accuracy in front of goal non-existent, and the club are going to be right up against it to get close to any of the top sides.

The factor today could be Tom J Lynch, who makes his first trip back to the Gold Coast since leaving the club.

Prediction
Richmond haven’t been in the greatest of form, but they must make a statement today. This could be a flogging.

Tigers by 54.
