GWS and Sydney will pick up where they left off in last year’s epic elimination final, in the latest instalment of the Sydney Derby. Join The Roar for live scores from 5:10pm (AEDT).

The last time these two sides met, the Giants secured a spot in the 2021 semi-finals with a thrilling one-point win in Tasmania. The Swans have had all summer to stew on that loss, as well as a series of other defeats to their crosstown rivals in major games.

The Giants are 3-0 in finals against their fellow Sydneysiders, but in the home-and-away season, that ledger swings sharply the Swans’ way, 13-6. To make matters worse, they’ll be without co-captain Toby Greene, who has five more weeks to serve of his six-match ban for umpire contact in the elimination final.

The Swans have had an interrupted preparation as well, with defender Jake Lloyd and young gun Chad Warner unavailable for selection due to the AFL’s health and safety protocols. However, former number one draft pick Paddy McCartin will make his Swans debut, having earned a second chance at the club after concussion ruined his time at St Kilda.

The footy world will have its eyes on Lance Franklin, with the champion just five goals away from the magical 1000 mark. For more reasons than one, the Giants will want to keep him quiet – a big bag from Franklin would make the Swans very hard to beat indeed.
