Mark McVeigh takes the reins at GWS for the first time as caretaker coach, facing a West Coast Eagles team having an even more horrific start to 2022 than they are. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 2:10pm (AEST).

The Giants’ 2-7 record has already claimed the scalp of coach Leon Cameron, who resigned in the days before their 30-point loss to Carlton last week.

Now in the hot seat, McVeigh has wasted no time in ringing the changes. However, injuries and illness has bit hard, with Lachie Whitfield, Nick Haynes and top draft pick Finn Callaghan among those ruled out to face the Eagles.

In further carnage, the Giants have been forced to make three changes after selecting their team, with ruckman Braydon Preuss and Lachie Ash (ill) as well as midfielder Tim Taranto (back) late scratchings.

Spearhead Jesse Hogan does return, though, while defender Jacob Wehr has been named for his debut as one of seven inclusions.

After weeks of injury blow after injury blow, the Eagles, mercifully, have a few stars returning from injury this week. Captain Luke Shuey and Andrew Gaff are back to bolster the midfield, but defender Luke Foley and goalsneak Liam Ryan replace them on the sidelines with injury.

The Eagles have just one win from their nine games so far this season, as COVID ravaged the side regularly. That came in Round 4, a gutsy win over Collingwood. Can Adam Simpson inspire the troops to take another scalp on the road, or will McVeigh’s tenure as caretaker get off to a winning star?
