The GWS Giants face perhaps their fiercest rival in the Western Bulldogs looking to continue their strong form under caretaker coach Mark McVeigh. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 7:25pm (AEST).

Having thrashed North Melbourne and West Coast and lost narrowly to Brisbane, the Giants have been ultra-impressive since Leon Cameron was handed his marching orders.

With a new, attacking game plan, some stars such as Stephen Coniglio returning to their best form and innovative moves like moving Harry Himmelberg to defence all paying dividends, McVeigh has certainly put his stamp on the top job. But he still needs a statement win to officially stake his claim for the permanent coaching job in 2023; could tonight be the night?

The Bulldogs are just clinging to their finals hopes, but a loss tonight would leave them two games outside the eight with a horror draw to come, making it essential for them to head back to Melbourne with a win.

The Dogs haven’t played at Giants Stadium since being thrashed in a spiteful elimination final in 2019, which saw Toby Greene appear to eye-gouge Marcus Bontempelli. Since then, though, they have won both their matches with the Giants, and will be keen to make it three in a row.

2016 Norm Smith Medallist Jason Johannisen returns for the Dogs in his first game for the season, while number one draft pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has also been recalled. Neither, though, are like-for-like replacements for Bailey Smith, as he begins his four-match suspension for a headbutt and an illicit substance scandal respectively.
