After a tumultuous few days, the Hawthorn Hawks and coach Alastair Clarkson head to Tasmania looking to upset the Brisbane Lions. Follow the action from the Apple Isle with live scores on The Roar from 2:10pm (AEST).
After nearly seventeen years and four premierships, Clarkson’s tenure at the Hawks looks set to come to an ignominious end. The master coach will exit the club a year ahead of schedule, following the collapse of the mooted coaching transition to Sam Mitchell in a year’s time.
It’s notable, though, that the players’ support of ‘Clarko’ – and vice versa – has never wavered this year, so the Hawks could easily rise to the emotion of the week and pull off a stirring victory. Veteran Shaun Burgoyne has been recalled after being name as the medical sub in last week’s loss to Adelaide.
The Lions have an emotional recall of their own, with former Cat Nakia Cockatoo lining up for his first official game for the club after a string of injuries. Named as the medical sub in last week’s come-from-behind win over Gold Coast, Cockatoo could be just the injection of pace the Lions need to fight off their currently patchy form.
Sitting fifth, a loss would be a hammer blow to the Lions’ chances of forcing back into the top four.
