Show Preview

The Hawthorn Hawks’ keenly anticipated clash with the Collingwood Magpies has had to be moved from Tasmania, due to the state being embroiled in the nationwide COVID-19 pandemic. Follow along from this game’s new home of the MCG with live scores on The Roar from 2:10pm (AEST).

This match was set to be one of Tasmania’s biggest ever, but a single COVID-19 case in the state for the first time in a year has prompted the AFL to shift it behind closed doors at the MCG. It’s another bitter blow for the league and fans as the pandemic continues to bite footy fans.

With neither side in the hunt for finals anymore, this match serves as the beginning of the end for outgoing Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson. After four premierships, the master is in the final stretch of his epic stint at the helm – and could easily end up spearheading today’s opponents the Magpies in 2022.

Both teams are coming off impressive wins over likely finalists – the Hawks putting a dent in Brisbane’s top-four aspirations, while the Pies put the struggling West Coast to the sword. As such, this could be a far more engrossing match than 14th vs 17th has any right to be.

The Hawks will be without sharpshooter Luke Breust for this match, after the triple-premiership star suffered a knee injury against the Lions. Meanwhile, the Pies’ only change is to swap newly fit youngster Beau McCreery for Trent Bianco.
