In the final game of round five, the Hawthorn Hawks will host the Geelong Cats in their traditional Easter Monday clash at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 3:20pm AEST.

An injury-hit Hawthorn suffered a narrow five-point loss to St Kilda last Sunday; the Saints coming hard in the third term and finishing it off in the fourth to overcome the Hawks.

Hawthorn failed to kick a major in the final term, just a Jack Gunston behind was added to the scoreboard in a tense final term.

Geelong suffered their first loss for the season last weekend, falling to the GWS Giants by four-points despite the Giants losing co-captain Callan Ward early to an ACL.

At home, the Cats, like the Hawks, dropped a four-goal third quarter lead to be overrun in the final term.

Geelong received some good news from the MRO though, with Patrick Dangerfield free to play in this big clash after an off-the-ball swing at Matt de Boer.

At team selection, Hawthorn made three changes to their side for Monday’s match.

Jonathon Ceglar and David Mirra have been dropped, while James Frawley will miss with a hamstring injury sustained against the Saints in round four.

Jaeger O’Meara is back in the side after his late withdrawal for a corked hip last weekend, and Kaiden Brand and Mitchell Lewis have been rewarded for good form in the VFL.

Geelong have made just one change: Charlie Constable will miss this clash, rested in his first AFL season.

Cameron Guthrie returns to the side for his first game this year; a calf injury stalled the start of his season, but a strong showing in the VFL last weekend earned an instant call up to the senior side.

Round 21, 2018 was the last time these two teams played, Hawthorn ran out 11-point winners on that occasion.

These Easter Monday clashes have traditionally been close, high-scoring affairs and AFL fans will be hoping this one is no different.

Chad Wingard will play his 150th AFL game.

Prediction
Geelong, keen to bounce back after last weekend’s poor second-half, will find a way to win against the Hawks. A bit of extra class and some good kids in their line-up, they have a nice balance to beat the Hawks.
