Hawthorn Hawks champion Shaun Burgoyne joins the AFL’s most exclusive club when he runs out for game number 400 against his old side the Port Adelaide Power. Follow along as history is made at Marvel Stadium with live scores on The Roar from 7:40pm (AEST).

Burgoyne becomes the fifth VFL/AFL footballer, and the first Indigenous player, to reach the magical 400, a testament to his extraordinary longevity and role in Hawthorn’s premiership threepeat dynasty. Thought to be on his last legs when he crossed from the Power at the end of 2009, ‘Silk’ was a key figure of the Hawks’ long run of dominance.

With the Hawks coming in off consecutive wins over finals-bound Sydney and September hopeful GWS, they’re in good enough form to have the Power concerned, especially when you add in the milestone game factor. Annoyingly for Alastair Clarkson, injuries to the speedy Chad Wingard, plus young defenders Will Day and Denver Grainger-Barras, means the Hawks look quite different to how they’ve fronted up in that run.

Geelong’s win on Friday night has pushed the Power down to fifth, and with competition for spots in the top four so tight, they can’t afford to be dropping games like this. However, while their record against fellow contenders isn’t pretty, they’ve been a regular bully of the weaker sides in the competition, so are deserved favourites here.

The Power were pushed hard by Sydney in a thrilling match at the Adelaide Oval last week, but come in with a line-up approaching full strength. They should be too strong for the Hawks – but you can bet the majority of neutral fans will want to see Burgoyne mark his milestone match with an upset win.
