The Hawthorn Hawks and the Port Adelaide Power face off at University of Tasmania Stadium in Round 10 AFL action. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 1:45pm (AEST).

According to their coach Alastair Clarkson, Hawthorn sit exactly where they should on the premiership ladder. The self-appointed ‘middle of the road team’ has been inconsistent in 2019 and slumped to a fifth loss for the year last weekend against the impressive Tigers.

Port Adelaide started the season well, yet have drifted somewhat. Their Round 9 win against the Gold Coast was much needed after two consecutive losses.

To keep in touch with the top four Port must win in Tasmania today, and to cling on to the bottom of the eight, Hawthorn need to prevail. It sets up a potentially tight and gripping contest.

The Power have enjoyed a good draw to start the season, taking advantage of matches against a weakened Melbourne, Carlton and North Melbourne.

The Hawks have had a slightly tougher run and the youth in their squad has handled the challenge reasonably well to this point.

Chad Wingard and James Frawley boost the Hawthorn squad after missing last week with Robbie Gray and Tom Jonas doing the same for Port.

Wingard and Gray will hold the keys to both sides’ attacking fortunes, attempting to find space up front and influence the forward half.

With Clarkson showing the willingness to take a horses for courses approach tactically in 2019, it will be interesting to see how he plays things today against a potentially explosive Power.

The University of Tasmania Stadium has been a happy hunting ground for the Hawks in the past and Clarkson will be looking for the clubs’ fifth win of the season in the apple isle.

Prediction
The recent grinding and methodical performances of the Hawks might take a back seat in Tasmania today, with a high scoring match appearing likely.

Nobody controls and shuts a game down like Clarkson, yet today could see the Hawks surprise the Power with a far more attacking mindset.

Look for Jack Gunston and Wingard to enjoy a day out up front and the Hawks midfield to dominate their opponents in the battle for superiority in the centre.

Hawks by 4 goals.
