Show Preview

Hawthorn are after consecutive wins for the first time since they opening two rounds when they host West Coast at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 1:10pm (AEST).

The Hawks broke a five-match losing streak with an emphatic triumph over Adelaide last week, five first-half goals from spearhead Mitch Lewis the difference.

Coach Sam Mitchell has unearthed plenty of bright spots in his first season in charge, but the Hawks are stuck in the bottom six and facing a long rebuild. They are, however, favourites in this game, at the same venue where they smashed the Eagles in the 2015 grand final to claim a third consecutive premiership.

The Eagles appeared an improved outfit following their win over Essendon and gallant losses to Geelong and Richmond since their bye, but things went backwards with a crushing loss to Carlton last week.

The Eagles went scoreless in the first and last quarters to prove they’ve got a long way to go to climb up the ladder; and making matters worse, gun ruckman Nic Naitanui’s season is in jeopardy after another knee setback.

The visitors have made five changes for this match, with goalsneak Willie Rioli also unavailable following the death of his father during the week. Former Lion Alex Witherden and forward Jamie Cripps, who missed last week after entering health and safety protocols, are the major inclusions. For the Hawks, Will Day is back from suspension, replacing Jacob Koschitzke.
