The Melbourne Demons can place one hand on the minor premiership with a win over the Adelaide Crows as Sunday footy begins. Tune into this clash from the MCG right here on The Roar with live scores from 2:10pm (AEST).

Two points clear atop the AFL ladder, the Dees have their finals destiny in their own hands. They’ll still have to beat Geelong in the final round to be assured of top spot for the finals, but they have at least guaranteed the double chance.

After some patchy recent form, the Demons have had confidence-boosting wins in their last fortnight, thrashing Gold Coast before withstanding a storm – both literally and metaphorically – to escape Perth with a win over West Coast. Jayden Hunt’s ankle injury, which could impact his finals availability, was the only down spot of Monday night’s victory.

The Crows were able to put a torrid week behind them and challenge another flag contender in Port Adelaide in a brutal Showdown last round, but are counting the cost heading into this one. Ruckman Reilly O’Brien’s season is done for the year with a knee injury, while concussions have ruled out veteran Brodie Smith and youngster Will Hamill.

Into the side comes backup ruckman Kieran Strachan, for just his second AFL game. Coming up against arguably the best big man in the game in Dees captain Max Gawn is a fair old baptism of fire for the mature-ager: can he handle the occasion?
