This game has the potential to be quite a contest, and that simply stems from the fact Collingwood have a number of injuries to deal with, which will give Melbourne a sniff, despite how poor they have been in 2019.

Simon Goodwin’s side have had a horrific season, which has seen them only secure three victories from 19 games.

It would be fair to say that no one saw this coming, as Melbourne did play in a preliminary final less than 12 months ago. It is difficult to work out exactly what has changed since last season.

The Demons are coming off a 33-point loss to the Richmond Tigers. Melbourne were competitive for portions of the game, but they simply could not play a solid brand of football for a long enough duration.

In term of positives, Clayton Oliver found plenty of the football against the Tigers, as he finished the game with 32 disposals next to his name.

Bayley Fritsch was sharp in front of goal, as he kicked three majors for the match. However, Melbourne will need more from the others if they wish to defeat the Magpies.

In team news this week for Melbourne, Steven May replaces the omitted Braydon Preuss.

As for the Magpies, they have had a decent season when one considers the ridiculous amount of injuries they have sustained.

They have chalked up 12 wins from 19 games, but there is no denying the form of Nathan Buckley’s side has dropped off in recent weeks, but they still enter the clash against Melbourne as favourites.

Collingwood did get a 69-point victory over the Gold Coast Suns at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last week, which was very much needed after a couple of lean games.

Adam Treloar was sensational in the midfield, as he accumulated 35 disposals. Will Hoskin-Elliott was very good in front of goal, as the forward booted four majors.

In team news this week for the Magpies, Jack Madgen replaces the injured Mason Cox.

Prediction
The injuries the Magpies have sustained over the course of the season give the Demons a chance, but it is difficult to trust Goodwin’s side at this moment.

There is also going to be some rain around, which will make it a scrappy game.

Collingwood by 14 points.
