Show Preview

Melbourne are out to continue their undefeated start to 2022 when they host GWS on Saturday night. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:25pm (AEST).

There has been no sign of a premiership hangover for the 4-0 Dees as they take on a Giants team who are starving for wins this season.

The Dees have won by an average margin of 25 points in their undefeated run and are comfortably the premiership favourites after four rounds.

The Giants, on the other hand, have fallen to 1-3, as they grapple for wins to give themselves a chance of premiership success with its current list.

With the current squad they have developed, the Giants came closest to that elusive flag in 2019 when they got through to the grand final against Richmond.

Since then, however, they have not been able to find the winning formula, finishing tenth in 2020 and seventh last season.

You could say that their premiership chances have gone past them already, or are in their final moments in these very next few games before the next crop of younger players becomes the focus.

The Giants will be without ruckman Braydon Preuss (suspended) and Isaac Cumming (HS Protocol), although they will regain experienced defender Nick Haynes, and bring in ruck Matt Flynn and debutant Finn Callaghan.

The Dees have dropped Adam Tomlinson and Harrison Petty will come into the backline.

A big loss would put pressure on the Giants, particularly coach Leon Cameron, who is into his ninth year in the role.

Plenty will have their eyes on the match as it features on the big stage of the MCG on a Saturday night, and the Giants will come under the microscope if they aren’t able to compete.

Can the Dees continue their undefeated run and strengthen their premiership favouritism; or will the Giants turn their season around and start a resurgence to the top?

Prediction: Dees by 13 points.
