Show Preview

After 2019 became the season from hell, the Melbourne Demons have a chance to start afresh in 2020, taking on the Adelaide Crows in their first Marsh Community Series match on Saturday afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:40pm (AEDT).

A poor pre-season in 2019 proved an early sign that Simon Goodwin’s men would fall from a preliminary final to 17th in just 12 months, so the Demons will be gunning to make the most of their practice matches this time around. The Crows, too, have a point to prove, several experienced players needing to impress new coach Matthew Nicks to secure their spots in his best 22 this year.

The Crows have named six new faces in their 26-man squad for the match, including former Port Adelaide ruckman Billy Frampton and 2018 top draft pick Ned McHenry, while the list of absences includes former captain Taylor Walker. Walker and wingman Paul Seedsman will miss the match to attend a wedding.

The Demons have named a far less experienced side, with star ruckman Max Gawn, midfielder Angus Brayshaw, new recruit Harley Bennell and former Gold Coast Sun Steven May all to miss. However, top draftees Luke Jackson and Kysaiah Pickett, alongside former Giant Adam Tomlinson and former Docker Ed Langdon, will all don the red and blue for the first time.
