The North Melbourne Kangaroos will look to bounce back from a Round 1 drubbing when they head home for the first time this season to take on the Brisbane Lions. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 1:10pm (AEDT).

North Melbourne travelled to Perth last week with high hopes of pulling off a win against the Fremantle Dockers, but left Western Australia with their tail between their legs, having been belted by 82 points.

It wasn’t a fair reflection of the talent North Melbourne have, but they played awfully, failing to secure contested possession, losing hit outs and not being able to get the ball to Ben Brown up front.

Brown will be the key today for the Kangaroos against what they will be hoping will be a slightly less fearsome defensive unit in the Lions.

In saying that, Brisbane will be riding high after handing defending premiers the West Coast Eagles a 44-point thumping last week at the Gabba.

They were excellent from the end of the first quarter, running away with the game as they ran on 14 goals to two. Their midfield led the way, while Charlie Cameron’s return was felt right throughout the side as he played an outstanding game.

The Lions played an up-tempo brand of footy, looking to get the ball forward at every opportunity, and if they can repeat that today, it’ll be tough work for the Kangaroos to hang with them.

While the Lions might be the on paper favourites, they have been ranked as outsiders by the bookmakers due to their horrendous record in recent times against the ‘Roos.

They have lost all of their last six, with four of them by more than 50 points, while they have also lost their last seven on the trot at Docklands, with the last win at the venue over the ‘Roos coming in 2009.

Prediction
Despite the overall record, the Kangaroos will need to improve 100 per cent to just hang with the Lions, if they can serve up what they did last week. Ben Brown is always a danger up front, but the Lions should take this one away during the second half to make it a two and zero start to their season.

Lions by 14.
