North Melbourne are one week away from their badly needed mid-season bye, and would love nothing more than to head into their break with their second win of the year when they face GWS at home. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 3:20pm (AEST).

Tarryn Thomas being omitted is the big story out of Arden Street for this game, with coach David Noble having lost patience with the young star due to ongoing poor form.

The Kangaroos’ high performance manager, Dan McPherson, has also reported that Thomas is failing to meet team standards and has been selected in the VFL side this week to earn back the trust of his teammates. This is a massive statement from the club and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

In other selection news, North will welcome back dynamic defender Aaron Hall and explosive forward Jaidyn Stephenson for this match. The Kangaroos have struggled this year in all aspects, so these two will be a welcome inclusion as they look to win just their second game for the season.

The Giants will be without their first choice ruck for this afternoon’s contest, as Braydon Preuss continues to suffer from ongoing illness. Matt Flynn has been a solid backup to Preuss this season but lacks the same level of mobility across the ground.

The Giants will be welcoming back All-Australian duo Lachie Whitfield, to their side, but have surprisingly chosen to name gun defender Nick Haynes as an emergency.

The highlight of Mark McVeigh’s short tenure as head coach has been his focus on playing his players in their favoured position. Stephen Coniglio has the ability to be the Giants best midfield asset, as he is explosive on the ball and has the ability to drift forward and kick goals, as he has shown in recent weeks. He is the key to the Giants’ potential success for the rest of this year and into the coming seasons.
