North Melbourne Kangaroos’ Round 7 trip to Tasmania to take on the red-hot Melbourne Demons looked doubtful to go ahead at one point – and given how they’ve started 2021, the Roos might be disappointed that it has been green-lighted. Check out the live scores from Tasmania on The Roar from 1:10pm (AEST).
The Dees are in heaven at the moment. To the surprise of everyone, none more so than their legion of long-suffering fans, Melbourne have started the season with six consecutive wins to sit second on the AFL ladder. Their latest win, a 34-point ANZAC Day Eve triumph over reigning premiers Richmond, was arguably their finest home-and-away triumph in two decades.
With perhaps the best midfield in the competition, led by captain and dominant ruckman Max Gawn, the Dees are now every chance to go 10-0 to start the year with a soft month ahead. However, Simon Goodwin’s men have been known to drop games they should win.
Surely, though, an upset in the Apple Isle is beyond the Kangaroos. Perhaps no side since the Dees themselves during the Mark Neeld era of 2012-13 have been as poor as North have to start the season. Six consecutive losses, and a dire percentage of just 45.9 – the worst after six rounds since GWS in their inaugural season back in 2012 – suggests new coach David Noble has plenty of work ahead of him to make this team even remotely competitive.
The Dees thumped the Roos by 57 points in their sole encounter in 2020. You’d suggest fans of both sides would take the same margin this time around.
