As this is the final round of the home-and-away season, this will be the final fixture both sides participate in for 2019, as neither club will be playing finals.

At the beginning of the season, there is no denying that both sides would have been eyeing off finals, but that will not become a reality.

North Melbourne have ultimately had a season where the senior coach has been sacked, which tells you that the campaign has not gone the way the board were hoping, but the future looks much brighter for what has occurred.

Rhyce Shaw, North Melbourne’s new senior coach, looks a seriously good find and he also looks like exactly what the club needed – a new voice.

The Kangaroos have chalked up nine wins from 21 matches, but one does get the feeling that tally will improve next season, as they have shown serious improvement under the new head coach, Shaw.

Last weekend, North Melbourne defeated the Port Adelaide Power by 86 points at Marvel Stadium. The result was obviously impressive, but the way the Kangaroos moved the ball is what impressed people the most.

It was quick and daring, which allowed the Kangaroos to completely exploit the Power. Shaun Higgins accumulated 38 disposals in the midfield, but it was Ben Brown who was the star of the show, as the big forward booted 10 majors.

Brown now leads the race for the Coleman Medal, and he will be looking to secure that prize for the first time in his career this weekend.

Nick Larkey was also impressive against Port Adelaide, as the youngster kicked five majors for the game.

In team news this week for the Kangaroos, Mason Wood replaces the injured Jed Anderson.

As for Simon Goodwin’s side, they have had a horrific season. Melbourne played in a preliminary final less than 12 months ago, but they look a world away from reaching that stage again.

They have chalked up five wins from 21 games this season, which highlights just how bad a season it has been. They currently appear to be a team of individuals, and it reflects in the way they are playing.

Melbourne were defeated by the Sydney Swans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last weekend. The 53-point loss was one of Melbourne’s worst for the season.

There were very few positives to take, but Clayton Oliver found plenty of the football, as he accumulated 30 disposals for the game. Jake Melksham kicked three majors, also.

In team news this week for the Demons, Kyle Dunkley (omitted) and Kade Chandler (injured) make way. Jayden Hunt and Braydon Preuss are the inclusions.

Prediction
Goodwin’s side have not given anyone a reason to tip them against North Melbourne.

The Kangaroos have a terrific record down in Tasmania, which should ensure they defeat the Demons, who are currently a rabble.

It is difficult to see how Melbourne will deal with the Kangaroos’ pressure and intensity around the contest.

North Melbourne by 25 points.
