Show Preview

Showdown! Port Adelaide take on their crosstown rival the Adelaide Crows. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog from 7:40pm AEST (7:10pm ACST).

With both sides sitting at four wins and three losses, approaching the middle of a season where top eight spots are going to be hard won, this feels like a Showdown with more to play for than normal.

Not that either side ever needs any extra motivation for this matchup. It has a marvellous history.

Last year’s Showdowns were particularly exciting games, with both sides having a narrow win each in the two contests; highlights in otherwise disappointing seasons for the South Australian sides.

This time around surely at least one of these teams will play finals. Games that look even on paper like tonight’s will help decide which.

The Crows may have found something like their best form after struggling early in the season. They’ve won three in a row, even if they did it the hard way last week in a low scoring slog against the Dockers.

Port Adelaide have been somewhat up and down, but it’s only been three weeks since that remarkably dominant performance away to the reigning premiers.

They’d hope to produce something like their best in a big occasion tonight.

However, the task has been made significantly harder for the Power, with Wines and Ebert both forced out through injury, significantly weakening that midfield.

Adelaide are also missing a prime mover, with Bryce Gibbs out through injury.

Prediction
While these games are always difficult to predict, this seems particularly tight.

Overall I think Port Adelaide have been better performed this season, but the Crows certainly seem to be building.

Ultimately, I think that the absence of Ollie Wines and Brad Ebert will hurt the Power a little too much. They go in with 11 players with 50 career games or fewer, and on average are much less experienced than the Crows. For that reason I expect Adelaide to run the game out a little better.

Adelaide by 10 points.
