Port Adelaide will aim to get on the winners’ list for the first time in 2022 when they host Hawthorn at the Adelaide Oval. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEDT).
The Power were left counting the cost from their narrow loss to Brisbane in Round 1, with reigning All Australian defender Aliir Aliir to miss an extended period with an ankle injury.
Robbie Gray has also been ruled out after suffering a knee knock, opening the door for former Lion Sam Skinner and highly rated draftee Josh Sinn to make their Power debuts.
Surprisingly, defender Trent McKenzie will be right to play despite suffering a seemingly serious knee injury late at the Gabba. With Hawthorn’s key forward pair of Jack Gunston and Mitch Lewis rampant against North Melbourne, he will need to be at his sharpest to hold them at bay.
The Hawks didn’t exactly do anything to suggest this season won’t be a developing one under new coach Sam Mitchell, but they did enough to take down fellow strugglers the Kangaroos despite missing a host of key players.
Gunston was awesome with three goals in his first game since 2020, and he could have had more were it not for some wayward kicking. At the other end of the ground, cult hero Changkuoth Jiath showed he is a bona fide star on the half-back line.
The Hawks regain captain Ben McEvoy for the trip to Adelaide, with he and veteran Luke Breust both coming in after missing Round 1 under the AFL’s COVID protocols. Surprisingly, triple-premiership player Liam Shiels has been omitted, while young ruckman Max Lynch will miss with concussion.
