In the first preliminary final, the Richmond Tigers will host the Collingwood Magpies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday night. Join The Roar for live coverage of the match from 7:50pm AEST.

A convincing victory over Hawthorn in the first week of finals granted Richmond a week off through the semi-finals.

Another dominant second-half performance set up the 31-point win for the Tigers and they’re now well-rested and ready to fire against the Magpies.

Collingwood’s route to the preliminary finals has been more tiring.

A close loss to the West Coast Eagles in Perth, put the Magpies into sudden death semi-final against the Giants last weekend.

It was a tight night at the MCG, but Collingwood held on to a ten-point victory over GWS, set up by a three-goal start to the final quarter.

In team news, there are no changes to either side, with the teams lining up as they have in their most recent matches.

Dustin Martin will line up for the Tigers on Friday night, despite all of the talk during this week about his ‘light’ training schedule.

Collingwood have performed better than most expected this year and their turnaround mirrors that of Richmond in 2017, keeping the coach but changing just about everything else.

To go all the way to the grand final, they have to knock off the very team their journey has drawn parallels with. Can they continue their press and put themselves in the final game of the year?

Richmond are on a roll, many have called them unbeatable at the MCG throughout 2018 and that they have been.

With two weeks off in the last three, the entire outfit is refreshed and motivated to make the grand final for the second consecutive year.

The last time Richmond and Collingwood met was in round 19; the Tigers won by 28 points, running away with it thanks to five goals in a row to start the final term.

Adam Treloar, Jordan De Goey and Tyson Goldsack have returned to the Magpies’ line up since that clash, adding some experience and star-power across the ground.

That day, Collingwood also lost three players to injury, but all credit goes to the Tigers who battled hard and then convincingly beat the Magpies outfit.

Prediction
The pressure applied by these two teams and the intensity at which they play, will most likely provide a tight, but low-scoring affair in the first half.

Richmond’s endurance should open the game up in the second half, as both teams start to tire.

The Tigers are the favourites going into this match, and that is the way my head and heart are leaning.

Richmond by 15 points.
