Two of the AFL’s biggest powerhouses have been relegated to the so-called ‘death slot’ on Sunday twilight, with the Richmond Tigers taking on the Collingwood Magpies in a clash of the… one-time titans. Tune into the action from the MCG here on The Roar with live scores from 4:10pm (AEST) as Round 16 begins.

How the mighty have fallen. Two-time reigning premiers the Tigers have fallen into a serious run in recent weeks, with losses to two sides outside the top eight in St Kilda and Gold Coast throwing their finals chances, let alone their premiership defence, into serious jeopardy.

Injuries are continuing to bite, too; important ruckman Toby Nankervis’ return from injury has been put on hold after he was withdrawn from the starting line-up, while triple premiership heroes Shane Edwards, Nick Vlastuin and Bachar Houli are also unavailable.

That they’re still favourites to take down the Pies despite everything that’s going wrong is a sign of how grim things are at the Holden Centre. After sending Nathan Buckley out on a high with a shock win over Melbourne, the Magpies have lost winnable games against Fremantle and St Kilda under caretaker coach Robert Harvey.

Sitting 16th on the ladder, arguably the biggest bright spot in 2021 for Pies fans has been the form of Nick Daicos in junior footy, the son-of-a-gun providing hope of a brighter future… though his stunning displays will probably force the club to use maximum draft points to ensure he is a Magpie in 2022.
