The 19th man controversy has captured headlines nationwide, but now it’s time for the on-field action to take centre stage as North Adelaide and Norwood battle for the 2018 SANFL Premiership. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3:20pm AEST.
Despite winning the preliminary final, North Adelaide were no guarantee to appear in the Grand Final, after the club was found to have played an extra man during the first three minutes of the final term.
The Roosters scored 8 points during that time and went on to register a thrilling 5-point victory over Woodville-West Torrens, after trailing by as many as 47-points during the third quarter.
While North Adelaide were handed a $10,000 fine for “gross negligence” and were docked four premiership points for the 2019 season, the Roosters were still cleared to play in the Grand Final.
But after a tumultuous week, the Roosters will now have to focus on toppling a dominant Redlegs outfit that finished the regular season as the minor premiers.
North Adelaide were dealt a blow after vice-captain Alex Spina broke his collarbone during last week’s match, but skipper Max Thring has been cleared to play despite battling a calf injury.
Norwood on the other hand enter the Grand Final devoid of any serious issues and as such are expected to win their fourth premiership of the decade.
With recently crowned two-time Magarey Medalist Mitch Grigg leading the way, Norwood are in red hot form having won 14 out of their past 15 matches.
However, Redlegs coach Jarrod Cotton has warned his side about getting complacent, citing Collingwood’s shock win over Richmond as an example of how the favourites tag doesn’t mean much on game day.
Prediction
Boasting plenty of weapons such as big kicking midfielder Jarred Allmond and young star Connor Rozee, the Roosters are capable of posting big scores.
However, Norwood’s midfield duo of Mitch Grigg and Matthew Panos combined with rejuvenated linkman Lewis Johnston, could prove too much for the Roosters to handle.
The repeat of the 2013 SANFL Grand Final is expected to draw over 35,000 fans to the Adelaide Oval, but unfortunately for North Adelaide history looks set to repeat itself.
