What could have been the Joe Daniher cup will instead just be a normal Sunday arvo as the Sydney Swans meet the Essendon Bombers at the SCG. Join The Roar for live scores from 3:35pm (AEST).
The Swans got their 2020 campaign off on the right foot against Adelaide. They fought back from an 18-point quarter-time deficit to put the Crows to the sword, before surviving a goalless final quarter to emerge three-point victors. Luke Parker led the way with 30 disposals, while Isaac Heeney kicked an equal career-high four goals.
It was a similar story for Essendon, who built a comfortable lead at home over Fremantle through the first three quarters, before surviving a furious late rally to claim a narrow six-point win without skipper Dyson Heppell. Dylan Shiel was everywhere, amassing 35 disposals and nine clearances in a superb effort.
These sides split their 2019 matchups, with Dane Rampe’s controversial post-climb making headlines in Sydney’s five-point win at home, before the Bombers got revenge at the MCG with a ten-point win. Essendon have won two of the last three meetings between these sides, but have lost their last seven matches at the SCG dating back to 2009.
