A curious game is to unfold at the SCG, as the struggling Sydney Swans host the Gold Coast Suns. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:35pm (AEST).

It’s been a long time since the Gold Coast Suns were favourites against the Swans but in true 2020 fashion, they are today. The Suns are coming off a fortnight of losses – at the hands of Geelong and Melbourne – but are having the best start to a season in their tenure. The Suns’ youth has also been well publicised, with youngster Izak Rankine debuting last week and looking a genuine talent.

If last Sunday’s turgid loss to Richmond wasn’t bad enough for the club, the Swans were also badly afflicted by injury woes. Midfielder Isaac Heeney is done for the year, while Josh Kennedy is unavailable for least two months. The Swans have not won a game since June 20, and only twice this season, meaning this has become a vital clash for them.

The Suns have only won at the SCG once – 2018’s miraculous upset against their opposition. The Swans are yet to secure a victory at their home ground this season.

Given the Swans’ injury concerns, they have made several forced changes. Heeney and Kennedy are obvious outs, joining omitted pair Sam Gray and Hayden McLean. Aliir Aliir, Callum Sinclair, Tom McCartin and debutant Elijah Taylor come into the squad.

Stuart Dew has made one change to his squad. Brayden Fiorini has been omitted with Wil Powell taking his place.
