After both tasted defeat last week, Sydney and Gold Coast are aiming to return to the winners’ list when they clash on Saturday afternoon at the SCG. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 4:40pm (AEST).
The Swans lost few friends in losing to premiership contenders Brisbane last week, but the defeat suggested they’re still another year off being a serious challenger to Melbourne for the flag.
They relied on some Lance Franklin magic to draw close in the third quarter, with the champion booting four for the term; the Suns will need to offer Sam Collins plenty of support to prevent a repeat performance.
The Suns were comfortably handled by Collingwood at the MCG, despite a four-goal haul from Levi Casboult and an outstanding performance from co-captain Touk Miller.
Despite some encouraging signs, the Suns are 2-5 and in danger of another mediocre year, which could spell doom for coach Stuart Dew. However, they have won three of their last five against the Swans, including two at the SCG in 2018 and 2020, so history suggests they can pull off an upset.
