After hightailing it out of Melbourne, the Essendon Bombers battle the West Coast Eagles at their Optus Stadium fortress in the west. Don’t miss a single goal with our live scores page on The Roar from 7:40pm (AEST).
The future looks bright for the Bombers, with the team showing real promise under new coach Ben Rutten. They might only have a 4-6 record in 2021, but a hefty percentage of 105 and a number of close losses means they could be inside the eight right now with a bit of luck. Jake Stringer’s return from a hamstring injury also gives their forward line some extra power.
The Eagles, while two wins ahead of the Dons and inside the eight, have been less impressive to date. Last week’s loss to GWS in Sydney saw their away record drop to 1-4 for the season, an ugly stat line for a team many tipped to be well and truly in the race for the flag.
However, their record in Perth remains imperious, and it would be a major surprise if the Bombers could spring an upset on home turf.
