Two of the AFL’s heavyweights lock horns as the West Coast Eagles host the Richmond Tigers in a Sunday night blockbuster. Tune into all the action from Optus Stadium with live scores on The Roar from 7:20pm (AEST).

The odd placing of this match is due to the AFL’s COVID-19-enforced fixture reshuffle, with this clash moved from its original slot on Thursday night in Round 14 to enable the Tigers to return straight home following their bye. Both sides have duly had their scheduled bye rounds moved back to next round.

The Eagles are the only side other than the Tigers to have claimed a premiership in the last five years, but they are looking a far cry from that dominant outfit at the moment. Sitting seventh with a 7-5 record and with a host of stars on the sidelines, Adam Simpson’s team are looking in some danger of missing the finals for the first time since 2014.

A courageous win over Carlton last week has kept the wolf from the door for now, but while spearhead Josh Kennedy and fellow tall forward Oscar Allen are welcome inclusions, taking on the two-time reigning premiers, even at home, remains one of the most daunting tasks in footy.

The Tigers remain as intimidating as ever. Their response to fears that their glorious era had at last finished has been emphatic, withstanding an almighty test from Essendon last week with a final-quarter onslaught in last week’s Dreamtime match. Aside from four valuable points, it also gave the Tigers an early look at the Optus Stadium venue they will return to for this match.

While Dion Prestia will miss again, the injury-prone midfielder suffering another hamstring tweak against the Bombers, Kane Lambert is a more than handy replacement for his first match since Round 6.

Sitting eighth on the ladder, the Tigers are lower on the ladder than the Eagles, yet somehow, there’s far less doubt about them missing the eight. A win on the road would see Damien Hardwick’s team enter the bye on the back of three straight wins; and with their record in the back end of the season in recent times simply awe-inspiring, they’ll fancy their chances to hit the finals at full steam once again.
