The second round of the AFL home and away season kicks off under the roof of Marvel Stadium with the Western Bulldogs playing host to the Carlton Blues. Join The Roar for live scores, coverage and analysis from 7:20pm (AEDT).

The Bulldogs were left licking their wounds after kicking eight unanswered goals and taking a 22-point lead against Melbourne in Round 1, only to lose by 26 in the end.

Jack Macrae was in the headlines this week after signing a lucrative contract tying him to Whitten Oval until at least 2027. He and Bailey Smith were the key to the Dogs midfield and with Smith missing due to injury, Macrae, Josh Dunkley, Adam Treloar and Marcus Bontempelli hold the keys to victory in this fixture.

Aaron Naughton will also be looking to continue his dominance up forward after posting four goals last weekend. The Bulldogs will be hungry to atone for last week’s slip up against the reigning premiers.

Believe the hype Blues fans, the lid is off! Last Thursday was a game filled with sentiment and awakenings.

Patrick Cripps and Matthew Kennedy were beasts in the midfield and were able to fill the void of an injured Sam Walsh, effortlessly. There was nothing more powerful in Round 1 than Sam Docherty kicking that goal in the second quarter, making a courageous comeback after undergoing cancer treatment over the off-season.

However, the Blues were not without their challenges this week with new coach Michael Voss, star forward, Jack Martin and now gun recruit Adam Cerra, all hit with league health and safety protocols.

Assistant Ash Hansen will take the reins and will be hopeful to continue the club’s winning start to the 2022 season. The silver lining to all of this is that Walsh has made an extraordinary comeback from a syndesmosis injury a fortnight early, to take Cerra’s place in the starting side.

Prediction
The last time these two teams played each other we were looking at different teams on a different journey.

Carlton were heroic and will continue to be this season, but I am tipping the Bulldogs to get their season back on track and win by 14 points.
