Sunday afternoon football takes us to Marvel Stadium, as an inconsistent Western Bulldogs outfit host a Collingwood side fresh off controversy. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3:20pm AEST.

The Western Bulldogs are, this season, a notoriously inconsistent side. They’re coming off a win – albeit a tenuous three-point victory against a gallant Carlton squad – but they’re heading into a tough three-week stretch (the Pies, Port Adelaide and Geelong) that will likely define their season. But, hey, at least their week between games has been uneventful.

That’s more than you can say about Collingwood. Their last clash, a strong win against Melbourne on Queen’s Birthday, feels like an eternity ago as we head into this match.

The past week has been absorbed by the Jaidyn Stephenson betting scandal; a simple bet that has left the massively talented forward without an opportunity to play for ten weeks. Nevertheless, the Pies must forge forward, and that starts with today’s intriguing clash.

Collingwood has been a tough team to play against lately; they are seven wins from their last eight games (their last loss that shock defeat to Freo) and they’ve managed to beat a number of sides arguably on par with the Bulldogs: St Kilda (Round 10), Sydney (Round 9), Essendon (Round 6) and… the Bulldogs themselves (in Round 4).

So, they’ll head into this one as favourites, but for mine favourites is a bit of a strong term to be using.

The Bulldogs, when they’re going, look superb. They’re showing that brilliance nowhere near enough, though, and that is what nearly cost them last week’s encounter and that has seem them fluctuate between beating finals aspirants Brisbane and losing to bottom two contender Gold Coast. Collingwood will be a very tough challenge.

Squad wise, there is just the one change for Collingwood. Jaidyn Stephenson is out, and his replacement is veteran Ben Reid.

The Dogs have been more ruthless in selection, dropping Toby McLean, Ryan Gardner and Bailey Dale, while losing Tom Liberatore to injury. Josh Schache, Taylor Duryea, Ed Richards and Roarke Smith all return to the outfit.

Prediction
The Bulldogs will give it their all – and beating the Magpies will leave their faint finals chances alive. But the Pies – no matter how wounded from the week’s drama – are tough to play against, and that’ll see them hold of the Doggies.

Collingwood by 21 points
