The Essendon Bombers simply must find a way to take down the ladder-leading Western Bulldogs, to have any hope of forcing their way back into the top eight. Tune into the action from Marvel Stadium with live scores on The Roar from 3:20pm (AEST).

Tenth on the ladder, but with the best percentage of any of the teams vying for seventh and eighth, the Bombers are in this finals race up to their eyeballs. However, a loss today could leave themselves with too much to do in their final fortnight, with their record currently at 8-10.

Nevertheless, the Bombers have shown recently they can take it up to the big players this year, only narrowly going down to the in-form Sydney by 7 points last week. A repeat effort would leave them every chance of springing an upset – though they’ll need to be tighter defensively against comfortably this season’s highest-scoring side.

The Bulldogs are three wins away from securing a club-first minor premiership – and they’ll start as comfortable favourites in all three. They were far too good for Adelaide in Round 20, and under the roof at the dome, the Dogs’ slick ball movement and dangerous forward line will be difficult to contain.

The Dons have been hit by injury, with captain Dyson Heppell (thumb) and midfielder Kyle Langford (hamstring) both to miss this must-win game. Youngster Archie Perkins has also been dropped. Meanwhile, star Dog Adam Treloar will play his first game since suffering an ankle injury in Round 10.
