The first of Sunday’s clashes takes us to Melbourne, as an in-form Western Bulldogs outfit host the Gold Coast Suns at Marvel Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 2:20pm AEST.

To say fortunes have progressed differently from consensus would be accurate for both these sides. Gold Coast, heavily fancied as wooden spoon favourites, have been uber-competitive losers and surprise victors in their first two outings. The Bulldogs, at best predicted to be mid-range finishers, have defeated two opponents with ease.

Who had the best win last week? Suns fans would claim theirs was the most surprising – and could’ve been a lot bigger, if it wasn’t for some horrific accuracy woes – but the Bulldogs’ marvelous comeback against a strong Hawthorn outfit was phenomenal and was a sight to see.

Simply put, both are heading into this afternoon’s clash riding the wave of sweet, sweet victory.

While both teams can claim true team efforts in regards to last week’s victories, there were a few players of note.

Josh Schache had four, and so did Alex Sexton against Freo (launching the largely anonymous Sun to early Coleman Medal leadership).

The Bulldogs were the more accurate team last week though – Gold Coast’s inaccuracy was a genuine blight on their win, and a concerning part of their game that they’d want to fix, and fast.

It’s very simple in terms of team changes this weekend: there are none. Both sides, somewhat predictably given their wins and their lack of fresh injuries last weekend, have named unchanged sides.

Alex Sexton will play his 100th career game, while the Bulldogs’ late inclusion last week in Lewis Young retains his place in the side.

Prediction
The Dogs narrowly won this corresponding fixture last year after a tougher-than-expected challenge from Gold Coast, albeit with that fixture being played in Ballarat.

Both teams have looked good, but the calibre of the Dogs opponents have arguably been higher than that of the Suns.

Nonetheless, it’s difficult to argue that the Suns don’t deserve the praise being lavished on them: they’ve been genuinely gallant thus far.

For mine though, it’s difficult to envision the Suns winning this game. They’ll be strong opponents, but the Bulldogs’ class and experience should find a way to overcome the Queenslanders. The hosts will win.
