The in-form Western Bulldogs face the St Kilda Saints looking to redeem their thrilling 2020 elimination final loss. Keep an eye on events from Marvel Stadium with live scores on The Roar from 7:25pm (AEDT).

Since the Saints secured their first finals victory since 2011 over the Bulldogs in October last year, these two sides have gone in opposite directions. The Bulldogs have emerged as a serious premiership contender in 2021, with their rampant midfield proving too good for every side they’ve come up against bar Richmond.

Last week’s upset win over another flag fancy in Port Adelaide at their Adelaide Oval fortress was the best of the bunch, the Dogs storming out of the blocks, then withstanding a Power fightback to book another crucial four points. A repeat effort against the Saints would make their Friday night clash with Melbourne in Round 11 a battle for top spot on the AFL ladder.

The Saints, in contrast, have faltered after a terrific 2020. Seen as premiership contenders heading into the year, Brett Ratten has faced difficulties with form and injury, to leave the Saints sitting mid-table with a 4-5 record.

Their gallant 21-point loss to Geelong in Round 9 was compounded by the recurrence of a foot injury to important ruck-forward Rowan Marshall. His absence places plenty of responsibility on the shoulders of veteran ruckman Paddy Ryder, though former Bomber Shaun McKernan has been drafted into the side to provide backup.

In better news, inspirational captain Jarryn Geary will play his first AFL game of the season, having suffered a broken leg in pre-season. Playing as a defensive forward, the skipper’s job on Dogs gun Caleb Daniel was crucial to the Saints’ finals win last year. Can he – and his Saints – repeat the dose?
