Show Preview

It’s crunch time for St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs, with nothing short of a win under the Friday night lights enough to keep their fading finals hopes alive. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 7:50pm (AEST).

COVID has taken a toll on the Bulldogs this weekend with Luke Beveridge being forced to make changes to his side that was smashed by the Swans last weekend. Aaron Naughton, Josh Schache and Lachie Hunter will all miss tonight’s clash due to the league COVID protocols.

In better news, Josh Bruce will make his return to AFL level after missing 10 months of footy due to an ACL injury. Superstar Bailey Smith will make his return to the side after his misconduct suspension to replace Hunter, and Buku Khamis will come in to replace Schache.

Bruce was having a stellar season last year prior to his injury and I think the inclusion of him into the side will lift the Bulldogs after an inconsistent year so far.

St Kilda have also been ravaged by COVID this weekend and will be without Seb Ross for tonight’s match. The Saints fell away rapidly in the second half of last week’s match against the Dockers to ultimately go down by 41 points at Marvel Stadium.

The Saints have been another team that has struggled with consistency throughout this season. When they are flying they are one of the best teams in the competition; but have struggled to find that form on a weekly basis.

After an explosive start to the season, I expect Max King to find some form and guide the Saints out of a form slump which sees them having won only one of their past five matches.

I think the Bulldogs will win this one by 15 points.
